The Statistics
In England alone, local authorities, between April 2016 and March 2017 dealt with around 1 Million (1,002,000) fly-tipping incidents. This was a 7% increase from 2015/2016.
This is the fourth year in a row fly-tipping incidents have increase and two thirds of the waste Fly-tipped was household waste.
The most common place for fly-tipping is highways. The number of highway incidents have increase by 4% from the previous year.
Local authorities carried out 474,000 enforcements actions, costing around £16 million, a decrease of 20,000 actions and £0.9 million in cost from 2015/2016.
Fly-tipping in 2016/2017 has cost the tax payer almost £58 million to clean up.

Impact of Fly-Tipping
Fly-tipping is a significant harm to the environment, a pollutions and a danger to public health and wildlife. It undermines waste businesses where fly-tipping offenders undermining those companies who operate within the law.
Penalties for Fly-Tipping
It's now a criminal offence with a fine of up to £50,000 or 12 months in prison, if convicted in a Magistrates Court or an unlimited fine and up to 5 years in prison if convicted in a Crown Court.
Local authorities also have the power to issue an on the spot fine between £150 and £400 for small scale fly-tipping.
